About the Event
Ladyman follows the early, creative lives of Aaren Stade and Evan Feist ten-year-old aspiring filmmakers whom Kao met as he was venturing into filmmaking himself in the early 00s. Kao shot behind the scenes as Ladyman Productions (the name of their filmmaking partnership) attempted their first major project, "Lonely Times".
Jeff Kao is an independent Oakland filmmaker who has written and directed four features and numerous shorts since the late 90s. He tends to cast non-actors in his films, readily using improvisation throughout the process of filming. His early work was autobiographical but has trended most recently toward the surreal, with a full-length musical fantasy titled Under the Overpass and Far Away.
